Coat of Arms
The symbols I chose on the shield represent main parts of the society during the Middle Ages. The arrows represent war. The cross represents the church or religion, the crown represents the king, the people shaking hands represents chivalry and good behavior.
Feudal System
Here is a diagram of the Feudal System.
Feudalism is the relationship between those ranked in a chain of association. A mans word was the cornerstone of social like in a Feudal System. This was also a system of land management, also documented in Japan, but known mainly in Europe.
The 3 main parts to a Feudal System are:
Workers- Freemen or Serfs
Nobles- Lords. Vassals managed land for lords. They became Vassals through the Act of Hamage.
Land- Also known as a fief.
The Feudal System was a lot like the Caste System in India. There was no social mobility like in present day America. Whatever class you were born into is the class that you stayed in your entire life. The poor couldn't somehow become rich. The rich stayed rich and the poor stayed poor.
In the Feudal System the lord would grant land to a Vassal who is a noble. Knights would serve the vassal in exchange for land. In return, the offer of their sword.

Editorial/ Cartoon
In the Early Middle Ages of Europe the Christian church became an important political, economic, spiritual, and cultural force. The church actually became more powerful than the king.
The kings started to convert to Christianity so that they had the church backing them up. The popes could also promote the kings.

The Mongol Invasions
The Black Plague
The Black Plague spread across Europe from 1346-1352. It was caused by a form of bacteria. Also from fleas on rats. It originated in Mongolia and spread along the Silk Road. Italian Merchant ships brought rats to Europe along with trade goods. It first appeared in Sicily and eventually spread. Europeans blamed the stars, Gods anger, and the Jews because they didn't contract the plague. The Black Plague ended up killing over 1/3 of the European population. The plague also lowered the power of the lords.
